Important Announcement/Teaser/Outrage Fodder
All good things must come to an end. So, apparently, does this.
That’s right, after 50 regular posts, I’m bringing my longest-running Let’s Play into a landing sequence. There will be two more plus-sized posts, an epilogue, and then it’s over.
This is a difficult thing to do. I mean, I’ve kept it going for 50 entries. It’s one of the more popular series on the site, and, as my probably-weighted Google search would have it, the first Morrowind LP that comes up. And though I feel in my gut like the series has run its course, I’m pretty sure I’ll get some flak for never finishing any of the quest lines or checking out Bloodmoon.
The thing is, though, this was never about taking anything to completion. For chrissakes, I never even touched the main quest after delivering the package, and I’ve flitted from job to job and personal mission to personal mission like a gadfly with a liberal arts degree. I’m a tourist–I’m sampling a wide range of content with the understanding that little of it will ever get finished. Honestly, to me, that’s part of what Morrowind was about. Morrowind wasn’t something to be finished, it was a world to inhabit and explore at my leisure. It’s not a coincidence that I stopped playing years ago when my first character had gotten to the end of every questline and maxed out every skill–I had gotten damn near close to “beating” Morrowind then, and it killed the experience for me. While I’d never get to that level within the confines of this LP, my point is that I’m comfortable concluding this series without becoming House Leader or Head Fighter or Iron Chef or whatever.
As for Bloodmoon: wasn’t gonna happen. Sorry, that place is lethal, and most of the interesting quests (of a variety I’ve yet to explore) are way out of my league. I’d have to gain another half-dozen levels at least, and that would require probably another dozen episodes. Besides, Cahmel hocked his warm clothing for repairs money.
So, what does that leave for the last two episodes? Hehe. You’ll see.
Oh, and obviously, there’s gonna be a series replacing this one. Yes, it’s a text-based LP. I don’t want to blab what it is; let’s just say it’s what makes tying this series up sting a little less on my end.
Right, I’ll save the getting misty part for the actual epilogue. I don’t know when the last entry will go up, but the penultimate one should be up by the end of the week. See you there.
Oh, and I have the footage for Dark Messiah, but it’s going wonky when I put it into Windows Movie Maker. It might be I downloaded the wrong version; if it ends up being a serious problem, I’ll just re-record or something.

Hiss! Boo!
In all seriousness, it was a great run. It’s what got me on this site, and was actually the first LP I ever read. Actually, that’s a lie, I tried to read that crazy Dwarf Fortress LP (forget its name) on Giant in the Playground, but that made me try the game. It was way too hard to pick up, so I stopped.
Morrowind was my first real RPG (by that I mean western, open-world, Roleplaying rpg), so it was a perfect fit. I thank you.
Yeah, I’ve been anticipating this announcement for a while now. Ah well, it was great fun to read, and I eagerly anticipate seeing the series go out with a bang.
Having said that: the next text LP you write will be faced with the unenviable task of having to measure up to this one. So I hope you’ve got something good lined up. 😉
Well, what game could be a decent followup to Morrowind when it comes to Text-based Let’s Plays? Hmm… I’ll have to think on this.
Wait, Cahmel actually delivered the package to Caius? When did that happen? I thought Cahmel had taken a wrong turn and was just doodling about looking for the guy getting into all the right trouble all the while comical just not finding him.
Man, the whole series has taken on a new light…
😉
Awww.
@Phase: With Rutskarn writing, there could be many decent followups. Oblivion, Dwarf Fortress, Civ IV, Monopoly, Tetris, Racetrack etc. My guess is Oblivion for obvious reasons.
Maybe, just maybe, Cahmel gets fed up and migrates into Cyrodiil. Couple of wacky antics later he ends up in jail. And the rest is history…
At least a little bit of history of the Emperor giving him the Amulet and him running away. Still more than what he achieved in Morrowind, by far.
Unless Cahmel takes a shortcut and ends up nonchalantly slaying Dagoth Ur in the last couple episodes.
Yeah my money is on oblivion.
I suspect Oblivion as well, other than the fact that Ruts said in the very first episode that he “just can’t play it anymore”. Not unusual, it’s a good game, but it gets boring after a mere 50 hours. Could be Fallout 1 or 2, or an earlier Elder Scrolls title. XCom is an option, or it could be something none of us suspect.
Tetris or Pong. Either one of those.
I must admit, Rutskarn, I’m a bit sad to see Cahmel go.
I guess I never thought about how it all would end. Still, a sad occasion.
I am, however, very curious as to what the next LP would be.
(Windows Movie Maker? Are you serious?)
Thank goodness you’re not dropping text. I hate video LPs…
Cahmel brought me to the site, and this was one of the best LPs I’ve read in a while. Makes sense you want to wrap it up though.
It’s great stuff.
Mixed feelings:
* I’ve enjoyed these as much as anything else on the site except V&B. The best part has been the humor and the characterization. The actual game has been a supporting element.
* I have every reason to believe that the elements I liked most about these would also show up in the next LP. DF was a great series and I’ve never even seen that game.
* Not that I don’t enjoy the video LP, but frankly your writing better than your improve.
* Everything’s better when Rut’s not in a rut.
He’s trying Dwarf Fortress again.
@Double A:
Let’s hope his Dwarves have better luck and less insanity than last time.
